Stefano Sangiovanni
Hello, this is Stefano! 🌊
I’m a PhD candidate in Political Science at NASP, University of Milan under the supervision of Prof. Andrea Ceron and Prof. Giovanna Invernizzi. During my PhD, I have also been a visiting fellow at the Mannheim Centre for European Social Research (MZES) and at Trinity College Dublin.
From October 2026, I will join the University of Konstanz as a postdoctoral researcher in the Cluster of Excellence, The Politics of Inequality.
In my dissertation, I study political parties and valence politics, analyzing how parties shape political competition by balancing positional and valence-based strategies in electoral campaigns and parliamentary debates. I also investigate how negative valence shocks, such as political scandals, affect voter perceptions.
My work combines quantitative and computational methods, including text-as-data, survey experiments, and large language models.
Don’t hesitate to reach out if you’d like to chat about research, political parties, nerdy stuff, music (punk!), and sports!
